Core Curriculum Information
Our core curriculum for English Language Arts and Mathematics originates in the Common Core aligned modules from EngageNY. Our districts uses these curriculum materials and then adapts them to meet the learning needs of our students. The NYS EngageNY curriculum and resources can be viewed by following the link below.
Read 180 Information
All middle school students, the 9th grade transitional class, and those HS students who have been identified for remedial reading services using this program have an ELA time block in their day dedicated to Read 180. READ 180 is a reading intervention program in wide use by students in grades 4–12 who read at least two years below grade level. It was created by Scholastic Corporation. We use the newest version, READ 180 Next Generation, which has been fully aligned to meet the demands of the Common Core State Standards Initiative. It is a workshop model program which individualizes components of instruction through the online assessments, readings, skill and strategy work that is tailored to students’ reading needs. The whole class and small group parts of the program enable students to work together with their teacher to practice key comprehension strategies and illustrate their understanding in writing.
